Brad is the spoon to my peanut butter. He’s the tree to my saddle. He’s the hay to my bale. Ok, ok I digress… but seriously WE GO TOGETHER…in fact that was our wedding song (look it up…George Jones and Tammy Wynette… it doesn’t disappoint).
So as introductions go that’s not a bad place to start. You can tell a lot about a person by their choice in music. Brad chooses old country… not nineties country…. I mean like sixties country. His all time favourite artist is Stompin Tom Connors, a true Canadian legend. He regularly sits on the couch with his guitar and sings Don Williams, George Jones, John Prine, Ian Tyson, John Denver. He’ll play Johnny Cash too cause it’s a crowd pleaser but it’s a little too ‘main stream’ to be included in his regular repertoire 😂. When I met him I knew none of these names. I have since then had a major musical education. An education he is currently sharing with our two daughters and it makes my heart smile 😍
I think Brad was born with the ranching gene. There is a tape of him as a three year old telling a story… the highlight reel of that story is that…he rode the tractor with grandpa, they saw a bear, the hay was getting cut… From the sound of it you’d think he did grow up on a ranch but that’s not the case. His dad is an electrician and his mom works at the local paper. But, If Brad could live his best life he’d have a huge ranch with rolling hills, thousands of cattle and be riding a gorgeous and talented quarter horse. The only thing standing in our way is land prices and an unstable market. Here’s hoping we can make it work for us anyway.
Brad cut his teeth on the community pastures of Manitoba and a couple of larger cow-calf ranches in the area. He rode horses, built fence, fixed tractors and did field work. And now he’s slowly teaching me those skills as well. Some days I’m a good learner… some days he’s a good teacher… some days it’s a battle of wills 🤷🏻♀️ and on those days we drink rye and coke.
Brad works hard to ensure the wheels on all our dreams keep turning. He does this by living a double life as feed salesman and auctioneer. He sells anything from tractors to teacups. And tools, horses and cattle… lots and lots of cattle.
Well Brads Ranchy there’s no denying it but then there’s all the things that make him a total original. Like the fact that he loves sushi! That he grew up in a huge family with a football teams worth of guy cousins that had so many inside jokes you’d immediately feel like an outsider. That he is as addicted to his phone as I am…. he got to level 1million on candy crush 😂😂😂. He loves the song WAKA WAKA by Shakira. He can imitate people to a T. Name a famous country singer and he will instantly replicate his style, mannerisms and voice.
Brad only wears bright blue original wranglers. But this actually tells you more about me than him. I only let him wear those wranglers because…. welll…. “wrangler butts drive girls nuts” 🙈
Honestly it’s hard to think of non-ranchy ways to describe Brad… cause he’s a beer drinking, steak eating, auctioneering, horse breeding, guitar playing, rancher! And we Love Him!
I'm so glad you're here. Let me throw on my boots and hat and let's get to work!
